This foundation was inspired by the life of Ramani.

As a teenager, Ramani worked as a nanny and maid with the founder’s family in India.  She later got married and raised two children while struggling to make ends meet as a construction worker. Like most women in India, she had very little access to breast cancer screening. She ignored the lump in her breast until one day when she started experiencing problems with her memory. She was soon diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and died within a few months at the age of 55. Such premature loss of precious lives is sadly very common in many countries. Why did Ramani die from a largely preventable disease?

Ramani Fund supports researchers who study the interplay of medical, technological, economic, social and environmental factors with the goal of improving public health. We want to particularly nurture early-career researchers by providing them training in writing successful research grant proposals and publishing.
